It occurs to me that when people come visit a wiki community, or any other OnlineCommunity, perhaps it should be CommunityExpectation to have a live, synchronous phone conversation with the new people.

This is in order to:

  • deliver a friendly, personable greeting
  • give the whole interaction a personal touch
  • give a person and a community a chance to represent themselves interactively
  • answer questions
  • impart CommunityLore that is not yet ExplicitInformation

The phone call would be between the person in the VisitorRole, (on their way to the GuestRole,) and an active CommunityMember. The CommunityMember should be responsible for posting a summary of the call to the wiki, perhaps on a date page. The phone call could be anywhere between 10 minutes and 2 hours.
