When refactoring pages, you may come across a lot of old discussions. Of course, reading discussions is pain, therefore they should be summarized.

Put a notice under each such discussion with your name or PersonalEmoji, year and a link to this page. For example:

Oh, – hah! You mean a SummaryBlock, right? 😉

new: 2021-01-26 17:02 UTCTimurIsmagilov:

Not really.

A SummaryBlock is a section of text that describes the rest of the text.

The summary I’m talking about replaces the rest of the text, the discussion in our case.

OK – I think that’s fine idea, and a good idea.

I do fret a little about the loss of originating text, but, I’m not too worried about it.

Two real and related concerns though:

  • I have a concern about calling it a “summary,” not because it’s not a summary (it is,) but because generally when there is a summary, the original data is preserved and accessible. I might call it a … “miniaturization?” “simplification?”
  • If we preserve people’s names and write new text adjacent to their names, we HAVE to make it clear that the new text is a summarization. Otherwise, we’re saying that people said things that they didn’t say. I have, on numerous occasions, seen summaries of what I say that say the exact opposite of what I actually said. And there’s nothing like being cited for saying something that you literally did not say. So if we’re doing this, I’d use a WikiWord to make it clear that the text was summarized, and not summarized by the person who is named.

  • I’d call it “beta-reduced discussion” 😝
  • Agreed. Maybe, link to ThisIsSummary??

I think that’s fine. I’d also remove portrait pages, and roughly timestamp (year, month) the conversation as a whole. This could be done with notation like:

TimurIsmagilov: ...
LionKimbro: ...

### Summary of Discussion 2021-01
